Howdy. I write about how to communicate better.

My fascination with better communication began at age 12, when I took a photography course at a local science museum. After graduating almost a year early from high school, I earned an A.A.S. in Instructional Media Technology in a year and a half. I then became a medical photographer at a county hospital, where I became fascinated with medical imaging. This led me back to college, where I saw the power of statistics to describe and predict behavior as almost magical. Several degrees later, I earned my Ph.D. in Biomathematics from UCLA School of Medicine. That’s where I learned how to write research papers. I also learned how to summarize complex experiments in single posters. I taught, tutored, and consulted with others. I spoke before large audiences. I even helped to create a presentation that led my lab to taking over a $13 million institute.

My whole working life has been about communication. I’ve been a photographer, a multimedia producer, a statistical consultant, and a medical-imaging researcher. Except for my early days, all my work has depended on computer technology. I’ve written in more than twenty-five computer languages across mainframes, minicomputers, Macs and PCs. Throw in my Microsoft certifications and two U.S. patents, and you might say that I’m a geek, too.
